INTRODUCTION

The Congress

With a view to carrying forward the development of TCM in Spain and all around the world, combining the sciences and new technologies, the European Foundation of TCM, with the ECCTCM (European Chamber of Commerce for TCM), PEFOTS (Pan European Federation of TCM Societies), WFCMS (World Federation of Chinese Medicine Societies) and the Association of Chinese Acupuncture of China, will celebrate the World Symposium on TCM, Acupuncture and Moxibustion, the 8th International Congress of the European Foundation of TCM and the 7th Congress of PEFOTS, under the title of “Present and future of Chinese Traditional Medicine in Europe” in the city of Tarragona during the 22nd, 23rd and 24th of June 2007.

The Foundation

The European Foundation of Chinese Traditional Medicine (http://www.mtc.es) of private character has as main target the promotion, spreading, teaching and defense of the practice of the Chinese Traditional Medicine (TCM), following quality criteria and scientific rigour.

The European Foundation of TCM is formed, between others, by the following bodies and organizations:

• Amposta’s town hall.
• Bureau of the Chinese Administration of TCM.
• Colegio Oficial de Médicos de Tarragona.
• National Investigation Council of Higher Education of TCM in P.R. China.
• Diputación de Tarragona.
• Consejo Comarcal del Montsià.
• Escuela Superior de Medicina China.
• Beijing University of Chinese Medicine.
• Yunnan University of Traditional Chinese Medicine.

Tarragona

Tarragona (www.tarragona.net) is a city located in the coast of the Mediterranean Sea, in the South of the Spanish region of Catalonia, it is the capital of the Tarragonès and also of the province of Tarragona. The city has an approximate population of 128.152 inhabitants and its area sizes 64,6km2. The Roman citizens turned the city out in the capital of the Tarraconense province, and that is why the important archaeological remains of that age are still preserved, as the Amphitheatre or the Walls, which have become the symbols of this human heritage city.

The World Symposium will be held in the Trade-Fair & Congress Centre of Tarragona, which is located in 2 Arquitecte Rovira Street. It is an outstanding building, which has been recently constructed, with huge and modern installation and newly technologies. This sitting has two auditoriums, some launches and fair area, it is perfectly equipped for the celebration of different events.
